COB LEDs are more efficient and powerful, offering better heat dissipation and light quality. These features make them particularly suitable for specific applications such as lighting indoor koi ponds. However, Koi COB LEDs are more complex to manufacture and, as a custom-made product, more expensive to purchase than standard SMD LEDs, which are composed of many small individual LEDs. The additional investment in the "Koi Edition" variant with COB technology is justified by the unique light quality it provides for this application.
The COB chip of the flexBEAM "Koi Edition" was specially developed for use in indoor koi ponds with the aim of preserving and enhancing colours. Independent long-term tests by well-known importers, dealers and private customers from the koi scene unanimously rate this spotlight as "very good".

Based on our experience, we recommend the
- 40W version for holding tanks up to 150 cm in diameter
- the 75W version for holding tanks up to 230 cm
- and above, or the 150W version for complete room lighting
Solid and easily replaceable glass lenses offer a choice of 60° or 90° beam angles.
As an alternative to the glass lens, a polycarbonate cover is available for the 40 and 75 versions. This results in a 120° beam angle.
In addition, the illumination depends on the height of the spotlight above the floor.
Depending on the application, it is possible to use a reflector shade. This further reduces scattering losses and directs the light downwards.
The spotlights have an active-passive cooling system: passively, the patented aluminium heat sink provides the necessary heat dissipation, while actively, a quiet magnetic fan cools the unit.
A spotlight that is enclosed too tightly will result in insufficient cooling and overheating, leading to a shorter service life. A very dusty environment can also lead to a shorter service life.
