Accessibility statement for the website koi-company.de

As of 22 July 2025

Koi Discount GmbH endeavours to make its website koi-company.de in accordance with national legislation implementing Directive (EU) 2019/882 of the European Parliament and of the Council. The legal basis for this is the The legal basis for this is the Accessibility Enhancement Act (BFSG) and the associated Accessibility Enhancement Act Ordinance (BFSGV).

This accessibility statement applies to the website accessible at https://koi-company.de .

General description and implementation of the service

The website koi-company.de is the online shop of Koi Discount GmbH. It offers a wide range of products related to koi fish, koi food, pond supplies, pond care and pool accessories. Visitors can search for products, find out about them, add them to their shopping basket and place orders.
There is also a range of digital services such as online courses and a blog.

The website includes product information, a search function, a shopping basket and an order process. There are also information pages such as the legal notice and the privacy policy. Navigation is via a main menu and links within the page. Interactive elements such as image carousels (sliders) and forms (e.g. for newsletter registration or contact) are also part of the offering.

Status of compliance with requirements

This website is only partially compliant with the requirements of the BFSG and BFSGV due to the incompatibilities listed below.

The conformity status assessment is based on an internal technical review using automated testing tools (including axe DevTools, ARC Toolkit, Google Lighthouse/Pagespeed) based on the criteria of the harmonised standard EN 301 549 V3.2.1 (corresponds to WCAG 2.1, compliance level AA). The test was carried out on 22 July 2025.

Accessible features

Despite the existing shortcomings, some basic accessibility requirements are already met: Page structure: The page is fundamentally structured through the use of

  • Page structure: The page is fundamentally structured through the use of headings, which facilitates navigation with assistive technologies.
  • Content adjustment: The font size can be adjusted via controls on the website to improve readability.
  • Colour and brightness contrasts: The contrasts between text and backgrounds largely comply with the specifications. A switchable contrast mode further improves readability.
  • Compatibility with screen readers: The site is largely compatible with various screen readers.

Non-accessible content and functions

The content and functions listed below are not yet fully accessible for the reasons stated :

  • Alternative texts: Many images, icons and illustrations do not have suitable alternative texts or none at all. This makes navigation difficult for screen reader users.
  • Interactive components (carousel): The image carousels (sliders) used on the website may have defects. Cloned, inactive slides are not always correctly hidden from assistive technologies, which can lead to focusable elements in aria-hiddenareas. The control elements (arrow buttons) also lack accessible names.
  • Semantic markup and ARIA: Links do not contain fully perceivable content in some places.
  • PDF documents: Older PDF documents created before 23 July 2025 are not accessible.

Reasons for non-accessible content

We are continuously working to improve the accessibility of our digital offerings. Rectifying the deficiencies, particularly in the area of carousel components and the comprehensive maintenance of alternative texts for the extensive image database, currently represents a disproportionate burden in accordance with Section 17 BFSG (German Federal Accessibility Act).

The immediate correction of all carousel elements would require far-reaching interventions in the existing technical basis. The maintenance of thousands of images and PDF documents is an ongoing process that is being implemented step by step . From now on, new content will be created as far as possible in accordance with accessibility requirements.

This assessment was carried out and documented internally in accordance with Section 17 BFSG and the criteria of Annex 4 . It can be submitted to the competent market surveillance authority upon request. Feedback and contact details
