Water parameters and measurement methods for koi ponds – webinar on 13 March 2026 with Lars Sebralla via Zoom
Duration: 2.5 hours
Everything you need to know about water chemistry and measurement methods for koi ponds
Dear pond enthusiasts,
we would like to cordially invite you to our
exciting webinar "Everything you need to know about water chemistry and measurement methods".
We will address the provocative question "Who measures, measures rubbish"
and explain water chemistry in a simple and clear way.
Our speaker, Lars Sebralla (www.Teichratgeber.de), studied chemistry and has been working intensively with
koi ponds for almost 30 years, particularly in the areas of pond construction, technology and water chemistry.
Which parameters are you familiar with? Which
are particularly relevant for koi ponds? Together, we will take a closer look at
temperature, oxygen content, pH value, KH value, ammonium/ammonia,
nitrite, nitrate, phosphate, redox potential and germ pressure.
In the first part, our speaker will explain the
relationships between the individual parameters and show how
they can be influenced. For example, he will explain how the pH value
and the KH value are related, and how ammonium and ammonia are related to nitrite and
nitrate and how they are influenced.
Which parameters are really relevant for koi ponds?
- Temperature
- Oxygen content
- pH
- KH value
- GH value
- Ammonium / ammonia
- Nitrite
- Nitrate
- Phosphate
- Redox potential
- Germ pressure
- Redox potential
- Conductivity
- Water level
A common assumption is that
normal aeration is sufficient to provide enough oxygen in the water.
We will take a closer look at this – with a surprising
result!
In addition, our speaker will explain
how to perform a water test correctly, what hidden
sources of error there are and how to avoid them.
In the second part, "Measuring, Controlling and Regulating
in the Koi Pond", the difference between measuring and control devices will be explained, along with
how they can help you monitor your pond.
Measuring devices are mainly used to
monitor and record various parameters such as redox potential,
conductivity and oxygen content. Control devices, on the other hand, go one step further
by actively taking measures to control and regulate the measured values.
An important aspect
of such a An important aspect of such a
system is the alarm functions. If something is wrong, such as the
failure of the filter pump or a power failure, the pond owner is notified immediately.
These notifications can be sent via various channels,
such as SMS, email or even a mobile app, to
ensure that you are informed immediately.
The installation of electrodes is another
critical point. Regular cleaning of the electrodes is
essential to obtain accurate and reliable data.
The redox potential provides information about
the organic pollution level of the water, while the conductivity measures the
inorganic pollution level. Both values are crucial for monitoring
water quality and ensuring that it remains within the optimal range.
Another important
parameter is
the oxygen content. By measuring and regulating the oxygen content,
the health of the pond and its inhabitants can be ensured.
Finally, level modules play a
crucial role in monitoring the water level in your pond and the
filter chamber. These modules ensure that the water level always remains within the
optimal range to promote a healthy and stable ecosystem.
Each participant will receive all
slides shown as a handout. Afterwards, you will have the
opportunity to ask questions about koi and ponds.
The webinar lasts approximately 2.5 hours,
divided into two 45-minute sessions with a short break in between.
We look forward to welcoming you to
our seminar and diving into the fascinating world of
water chemistry together.
Monday to Friday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Lars Sebralla
The speaker has been involved with koi since the early 1990s. From the outset, his focus has been on technology and water chemistry. His experience in freshwater and saltwater aquariums from the early 1980s to the present day and his studies in chemistry have laid the foundations for his expertise in the field of koi. Over the years, he has carried out numerous measurement series and studies. Under identical conditions, he has compared and evaluated various technical devices and types of feed from a scientific perspective. He runs one of the largest German-language websites dedicated to our hobby. Visitors can learn everything there is to know about our koi hobby on over 2,700 pages.
