The problem with many koi ponds is that there are hardly any plants available to break down nitrate. Attempts to use nitrate filters have failed because koi ponds do not have an oxygen-poor, anaerobic environment. We can offer you a product that removes only nitrate from the water.
SR8 is a nitrate-selective, strongly basic, macroporous anion exchanger that removes only nitrate. Even at very low nitrate levels, no other substances are removed. Unlike other nitrate resins, the pH value does not change. SR8 is preferred for removing nitrate from drinking water. Here, the nitrate ions, which are harmful to health, are exchanged for harmless chloride ions.
The resin can be regenerated without hesitation and has a shelf life of several years.

Place the filter media bag containing 4 litres of SR8 nitrate resin in a location in the pond or filter where good water flow around the resin is ensured. The nitrate resin is very fine-grained (0.4-0.6 mm), and the filter bag is designed for this fine grain size.
The manufacturer recommends using 1 litre of nitrate resin per 1,000 litres of pond volume as the optimum amount. We assume that you will also get by with 50%, i.e. 0.5 litres per 1,000 litres. The resin then only needs to be regenerated more often, but it has a shelf life of several years. Regeneration is carried out with 200g - 250g of common salt in 2 litres of warm water (approx. 40°C) per litre of nitrate resin. During regeneration, the resin must be placed in a flow for 10-12 hours so that the nitrate can be exchanged properly. If the resin is only placed in a bucket, regeneration can take weeks. The resin must then be rinsed with clean water.
If you build a bypass for this application, you can measure much more effectively whether the water leaving the resin no longer contains nitrate. If nitrate is still detectable, the resin must be regenerated. If you place the filter media bag in the pond or filter, you can only measure the total amount and do not know so quickly when the resin needs to be regenerated again.
