AquaClear is a purely biological long-term filter medium and ensures optimum filter utilisation in the biological area. With a porosity of up to 66%, AquaClear has a colonisable surface area of 140 m² per litre. Its density of 350 kg/m³ makes it ideal for koi ponds. AquaClear is fired at 1200°C using a special process. The pores of AquaClear are large enough to provide nitrifying bacteria with a large colonisation area. Inside the balls, anaerobic bacteria strains find the ideal conditions for the breakdown of nitrates. Aerobic bacteria strains live on the outside and in the large pores, converting ammonia and nitrite into nitrate.
Do not confuse AquaClear with expanded clay from hydroponics, which is not open-pored and does not allow nitrification. It floats for about 6 weeks until it is completely saturated. Ø = approx. 2 cm
