Fresh water from the tap is not fresh water. Rather, it is treated for human consumption and may contain chlorine, which is toxic to fish, as a disinfectant. Toxic metal ions (e.g. copper, lead) can also be washed out of water pipes. Copper sulphate oxide from copper pipes is deposited in fish as a heavy metal.
During prolonged rainfall, heavy metals are also washed in from the air. These impair water quality and damage the mucous membranes of fish, making them susceptible to parasites and bacteria.
Freshwater Start binds these harmful substances so that they cannot penetrate the fish's organism. The vitamin B1 it contains ensures rapid mucous membrane formation and makes the fish less susceptible to external influences.
